This black and white series represents a more experimental phase in my body of work. Without the use of colour, the focus is on the actual drawing medium and its interaction with the paper - the start and stop of a pencil line, the smudge of a charcoal, the varying pressure of the brush stroke, the natural flow of a puddle of watercolour, the dynamic splash from the flicker of the brush. Greater attention is paid to the negative space and how it interacts with positive space. Some marks are deliberate, others are from the subconscious; as such the subject matter is more abstract in nature and forms are not confined to our perception of reality. Here's hoping the presence of the artist’s thoughts and mood are felt through the fluid movement and interaction of the subjects.
